Arab/Israeli Conflict and how it could be solved
So, I am in the process of taking an Arab/Israeli conflict class, and the more I think about it, the more I wish I could solve all of this death and destruction in the middle east. In this discussion post, I would like to stay on the Arab – Israeli conflict; primarily those that arose due to Israel becoming a state. (I.e. – The Palestinian refugee problem).
Comment your thoughts, and how you think we may could solve all of this conflict across the world.
Obviously, a zero-state solution is needed. Turning Israel/Palestine into an anarchist control zone will not be sufficient to solve the problems there, but it is one step that must be taken.
So what do you do with all of the Palestinian refugees that were displaced when Israeli’s took control of the land?
Never underestimate the 317,000,000-State Solution
Some might think that is a joke. I can hardly see any better, more reasonable solution. Once each individual is responsible for their own piece they will start finding ways to work with others. When they can’t find enough people with the same preferences they will learn to make some compromise with those on the other side.
Sounds pie-in-the-sky but so far every other solution is a pipe dream. There is no way to undo hundreds of years of conflict. What you might find in the 317million state solution is a map, and that map will show that most states wouldn’t be antagonistic and the truth is that the smaller number, on each side, is perpetuating the conflict.

The history of the conflict is relatively well known, and the Israelis have been willing to work with the Palestinian authority to a large extent, though never ceasing their own part in continuing violence. Every venture for peace has failed. IMHO, every venture for peace will continue to fail until the UN and individual nations stop supporting Palestine financially. The Palestinian status as is guarantees the Palestinian Authority boat loads of cash for simply existing in limbo status. If you stop the finance of the conflict, I am willing to bet that many would suddenly support peaceful discussion and/or previously offered full, equal citizenship under Israeli authority. Personally, I don’t really care what the outcome is. People in this matter are all like: “I want my statism to look like me,” and I am all like “I don’t want statism.”
I don’t think there is a solution. It’s a problem built on hundreds of years of conflict. I doubt there is a solution that will do the trick in reversing such a massive, historical problem.
This is a subject that concerns me greatly. In my view, part of the solution is the empowerment of the individual. A Palestinian “state” is not the whole answer. The disaffected will likely remain alienated and dissatisfied with any political settlement until they possess a sense of self-worth and achievement in their own lives. That will not come from any arbitrary border.
Is there a Mcdonalds on the West Bank and in Gaza I wonder?
Taking religion out of the equation would greatly help. Right now, two set of “people” claim that the land of Israel/Palestine was handed to them by their deity.
As much as I agree with the idea of a zero state solution in principle, what do you guys think about the real viability of that?
I mean there’s already such difficulty in even getting Israel to treat Palestinians like DOGS, as opposed to insects. So how much further away is a situation where Israel cedes its own status as a nation state and allows Palestinians to reclaim their stolen land?
I don’t mean to be pessimistic here, but the Israeli govt is full of some BASTARDS, truly despicable people. How on Earth do you get a society full of such rabid sentiments to do a 180* and move in our direction? Extremely complicated shit…
However my own idea for a solution of course involves the US cutting all foreign aid to Israel.
That’s something WE can help do. Israel has done such despicable things in the past, directly to America, that we have a lot of ammo to use to help regular Americans see how corrupt and ridiculous they are. (USS Liberty? Theft of uranium from US?)
A more recent thing is the unreleased 28 pages from one of the official 9/11 investigations. Some believe they show how Israel was somehow involved in the attacks. Others say they show Saudi involvement, however if it WERE Israel, it could be a huge step toward convincing Americans how fucked up and treacherous that country is.
Americans stop loving Israel, US govt loses support in sending aid to Israel, Israel can’t support occupation, Israel forced to adopt a more reasonable policy toward its neighbors. SOMETHING like that. Bear w me, typing on a cell phone here, not the most eloquent
