Artificial Intelligence Alarmism

I am looking forward to the age of abundance. I don’t think that it is inevitable though as we could have a big setback through a major war or some other existential event. But I am usually optimistic. I liked the video you linked to and concur with it’s conclusion. Robots and AI taking over “our jobs” is not bad… it just is. I think the bigger question is, will humans be around in 100 years? Or will we find it necessary to merge with machines and increase our intelligence to remain relevant? Will some humans stay human and others choose to be humanity+ effectively creating a new branch on the tree of evolution. Only this one, a self directed evolution. It is all very interesting.
Great link, @colewebbharter . One thing that seems to be missing from that video’s discussion is that jobs aren’t important. Production and consumption is what matters. If robots are so fabulously productive and cheap, well, that’s going to drive prices of products down like crazy.
However, the social and psychological effects seem pretty unpredictable here. Are we going to see Luddite attacks on bot factories?
I think the work of the future will be based entirely on what people want to do for a sense of meaning and purpose rather than what people need to do to stay alive and well, with the latter being handled by automation.
I think that any alarmism is to be avoided. I think it would be wonderful if no human being had to do any job that could be done by a machine. It would remain a human necessity that we would challenge our minds and bodies in some way to avoid atrophy.
