This remains my most popular book (title maybe?) and I’ve wondered why really. It does seek to explain a fundamental worldview: namely, we should not take our cues from the central plan but rather chart our own course. It is an argument for an anarchist life.

This was an eye-opening book for me in many ways, mostly because it introduced me to Jeffrey Tucker’s view of the world (and thus brought me to the Mises Institute, Laissez-Faire books, and Liberty.me). I had been involved in libertarian ideas before but more as an abstract ideology for politics and economics. Bourbon for Breakfast brings forth the idea that liberty is a lifestyle – and can be a fun, optimistic, passionate lifestyle.So I found two new ideas which I quickly adopted:
1) Libertarianism does not need to be gloom and doom, only focused on the oppression of state coercion. We should be optimistic supporters of technology and achievements of the market, of individual liberty, and state-free living.
2) Loving liberty is a lifestyle, not just a choice on election day. Everything from how you earn your money to which shower head you are allowed to uy are affected by state power. Isn’t it silly that state coercion extends as far as shower heads? Shouldn’t we stand against it?
And yes, the title is what first stood out for me and drove me to get the book.
I use it as an introduction to our ideas when I find somebody that looks like potentially interested. It is refreshing, intimate (your encounter with the justice system), eclectic and radical without coming across as fanatical. People connect easily and end up considering seriously ideas, that, if explained in a more formal fashion, would come across as outrageous. Defending the undefensible for example is off-putting for beginners. Man, economy and state or anything of Hoppe are non-starters. Older classics, like Bastiat, Spooner or even Nock are just out-dated in style.
Actually, I would like you guys to suggest me some fiction titles to be used for this purpose, please avoid Atlas (people is scared by the sheer size) or Alongside night (too childish).
