Candles have become commonplace in our homes today. If you don’t have money to buy candles every time, you should consider making one for yourself. Woodwick candles are affordable, but sometimes, the funds may not be forthcoming. Homemade candles are cheap and burn like expensive candles.
If you’re looking forward to cutting cost, here are steps to make your candles at home:
Prepare the working place
Was isn’t hard to clean, but it can mess up the environment. You can’t prepare candles just anywhere. It should be done in a distraction-free environment. Set up newspapers in your working area, so it makes it easy to dispose of. Your containers and jars should also be kept handy.
Melt the wax
Put a sufficient amount of water in a pan and put half a pound of wax in the double boiler. Stir it and break it into smaller chunks until it melts. The temperature should be between 160-170 degrees. Take it down immediately it gets to that point.
Put the wick in the container
Put the wick in the container as your wax melts. Most boxes come with stickers at the bottom, but others don’t. If yours don’t have, you can use the melted wax as an adhesive. Ensure the wick is in the center of the container. When the wax hardens, it sticks to the bottom of the jar.
Add fragrance
You can now add any fragrance of your choice, like the kind used to make woodwick candles. Pour the fragrance into the boiler and stir it for 30 seconds until it blends into the wax.
Cool it and pour into the container
After adding fragrance, allow it cool for some minutes. When the wax reaches a temperature of around 130 degrees, it sets better than when it is hotter. Hold the wick lightly as you pour the wax so that it remains in the center.
Secure the wick
The wick is a thin thread and may fall over melted wax if it is not secured. Ensure it stays safe in the center while the wax hardens. If the wick is off-center, it won’t burn properly, and you wouldn’t want that. To secure the wick, gently ties the wick to a pen or tiny stick and leave it for some hours.
Allow it to cool
When the wax is cold, loosen the wick. You’ll notice that the wick doesn’t move from its position. Reheat the remaining wax on the boiler, then add more to the container.
Trim the wick
The wick doesn’t have to be too long. It would help if you trimmed it to at least ¼ inches. If it’s too long, it will burn too big. When you light it and notice the flame is too high, it’s a sign that you need to trim it.
Enjoy your candle
If you can’t purchase woodwick candles, you can follow these simple steps to make one for yourself. You can now relax and enjoy your candle.
