Can I get any suggestions for a name for a liberty group or organization centered in the Itasca County area of Northern Minnesota?
Would anyone be interested in helping to establish such a thing, or offering suggestions as to some of the best ways?

IC (for Itasca County) just begs to be part of a cute acronym. IC Anarchists Network? Freely Undertaken IC Kinship- Meeting Establishment? Team Residing in IC Kicking Yobbishness?
I’ve started social groups with special interests, over the years, but never for freedom lovers. Until recently, it would have been like organizing a club of pawpaw enthusiasts, but it’s looking doable, now. You’ve got 3 hurdles to clear.
1) Let people know about it. This is easier with the various online venues, but don’t neglect notices in bookstores, coffeeshops, and grocery store bulletin boards.
2) Give them something to do. A purely social meeting once a month is fine, but an adjunct discussion group, book club, or spot of activism every month will give them a focus, as well.
3) Prepare to spend some time before you see results. The last group I started had more club ossifers than interested attendees at the first meeting, and by the end of the second year, we were up to almost 20 regular attendees – I figured we’d peak out at about 35 members. Then we hit critical mass, and by the end of the third year, upwards of 120 people were showing up at the monthly social meetings. I’m still a tad flummoxed, and the group is 19 years old now.
Never ever ever ever allow the slightest hint of democracy – elections for club officers have caused the downfall of more groups than I can count. By all means, listen to the members – take polls, even – but remain the leader until you want to hand it over to someone else. Every lifeboat needs to have a captain.
I do have an advantage in name recognition. I gave my goal of being anonymous last year to write for a (mostly) conservative group. I have been able to insert my message into the works frequently, as I am the only writer, the editor, and have created 90% of the infrastructure myself.
We have done some really good things, but I am afraid that the whole thing is going to collapse due to the fact that I can not afford to keep donating 30+ hours a week to the endeavor, and they consistently fail to agree to my suggestions on how to raise funding. I think I am going to have to essentially fire them all and take it over myself so I can do what needs to be done without interference.
If this happens, I will need a name which will attract freedom people without scaring off those who I am trying to pull out of their devotion to elephants and asses.
I like the IC suggestion. I start thinking of ways I can build out from there.
I’m afraid that you’re right – committees are a wonderful way to spread responsibility out, while making it difficult for anyone to actually accomplish anything. One person with a vision (and plenty of volunteer helpers who share that vision) can accomplish more than any committee can.
On the name, I expect that you’re already aware that sex, humor, and kittens catch attention better than anything else, so I’ll leave you to it, with one that just occurred to me – People Against Nepotism in IC. Good luck!
Thanks, Dan. Whatever format it takes, I’m not going to give up.
One name that comes to mind is The IC Truth, but after a long winter up here any reference to ice or snow can be counterproductive. 😉
