Newbie-friendly Bitcoin wallet for Android?
Hi,
Do you have any recommendations for a Bitcoin wallet on Android? Ideally it’d be simple and intuitive enough for beginners to use.
Also, is a different wallet required for every AltCoin (e.g. LiteCoin, etc)? Or are there wallets that can handle different AltCoins?

Mycelium is a pretty featured and intuitive Android wallet. I use Blockchain, Coinbase, and Circle too though, just because they link up to my normal web accounts.
Unfortunately I don’t know much about alt-wallets for Android. I’m guessing some exist for the bigger coins like Litecoin, Doge, etc., but probably not any multicoin wallets yet.
“Bitcoin Wallet” by Andreas Schildbach is open source and relies on no central server. I think it is as intuitive as any of the Android apps.

Hi Harry, I’ll second Daniel’s endorsement of Mycelium. It has a lot of advanced features but they don’t get in your way if you don’t need them. You can perform a simple transaction like tipping an article with a couple of taps, but if your phone supports an OTG cable (USB On-The-Go) you can connect a Trezor hardware wallet. It works great, you can spend from your hardware wallet using Mycelium as an interface instead of the MyTrezor web wallet. Also Mycelium is an HD wallet so you only have to make one intial paper backup.
Sorry but I don’t know too much about altcoin wallets. The ones I hear about are all for desktop, not Android. I gather Trezor is planning to support Dash but I think that’s still in the works. As far as altcoin exchanges, I hear great things about ShapeShift.
