Other social networks vs. Liberty.me
Have you reached the tipping point where you spend more time on Liberty.me than Facebook? How long did it take?
No, but I enjoy spending time here stalking the chat. If more people used the chat room I probably wouldn’t leave >_>
I tipped! 🙂
We are going to improve status updates and tweak the flow a bit more so that you have more a portal regarding what’s going on.
I never liked the idea that this would be compared to FB because I do think we offer vastly more (publishing, archived forums, books and discussion, nightly lectures, etc.) and also the point of enterprise is not to copy but improve. Still I do see that there is something of a competition for people’s time. Even given that, the time here is quality time 🙂
No doubt that the quality of this domain is far and above that of FB. I’m feeling a bit tipsy myself.
Negative numbers as they pertain to time spent on an unused social domain are perfectly acceptable. Especially when compared to the proposed negative interest rates being mulled over by some central bankers.
Whether you like the comparison or not, I think you are competing with FB for members’ eyeballs. I guess it would be possible for someone to continue subscribing to L.me for other features but socialize more on FB. I am biased, I never liked FB at all ever.
I flipped, but I am low hanging fruit. I still have an FB account, but I never liked using it. I like google plus better, but I’ve flipped there too.
Absolutely. For now we’ve spent most of our dev time get the browser version right and it is now. but yes on App.
Sometimes I feel like I only keep my FB account around to try and help people wake up, by posting things from the sites and sources I follow. I often wonder, though, will it look suspect to NOT have an FB account, in the eyes of the status quo? And by suspect, I mean to the extent that the “tinfoil hat-wearing, conspiracy theorist, crazy person” stereotype will get thrown around.
If you’re not on several NSA watchlists, you’re not doing it right.
Similar here, except that it has been years since I have been on facebook.
One interesting feature of Liberty.Me is that the thirty-day trial (and I’m guessing the fees too) acts as a spur to action! I want to squeeze every bit of value out of that free trial and I fully expect if and when I decide to carry on as a paid member, I’ll want to squeeze every bit of value out of that too! It’s making me write articles I’ve been meaning to write down formally for years!
Out of the dozen or so articles I’ve posted in the last two days, only one was pasted (from an email to Jeffrey Tucker actually): the rest were written from scratch.
This is a good way to get a free kick up t’ass
I would say that you’re getting your money’s worth if you’ve posted that much material. But so too have the rest of us benefited from your postings as an addition to the knowledge base of ideas contained in the LM domain.
One of the things which LM lacks compared with FB is the ability to send a message with a friend request. As it stands now it is necessary to send a separate message then a friend request. If this were possible it might encourage people who are wanting to make friends to at least introduce themselves, or mention something that would indicate why they wish to become friends.
I don’t know if this is a personal quirk of mine, or not, but when I receive a friendship request out of the blue from someone I’ve never met nor had any previous contact with I react about the same way as I would if I receive a flyer in my mailbox.
I think as the speed and UX improves, I will be spending more time here. Facebook tends to represent the population at large, so that’s pretty unexciting in the liberty space. “Yeah, well I like to drive on roads, Kamuela,” and “Thankfully heartless bastards like you aren’t in control of our CPS in this country” get old after a while.
The nature of liberty; the fundamentals of non aggression, means that you will be subject to cheap shots and sucker punches from the ill informed and unenlightened.
