Living in NYC I hear stories from people quite often lately – even more than under the Giuliani administration – of serving and protecting actually becoming scaring and brutalizing. I’ve lived in this city since i was 18, I saw the world center attack, I experienced the week and years after, a blackout that everyone feared would be violent -but was in fact the best example of spontaneous order I’ve ever seen.
Does anyone have examples or stories they heard of how they/someone confronted, overcame or changed circumstances where they or someone they loved was being unjustly and violently treated by law enforcement? I’d prefer not stories about people who knowingly go in expecting to get a reaction – I’m asking for examples of people who were at the wrong place at the wrong time etc.
Thanks. I’d like to try to pull together some stories to provide people with hope that something can be done. Bless NY for all the strangers that come to each other’s aid, but there is really no where to turn for this kind of experience and i’d like to change that. Thanks.
