What would your reading list include for a solid foundation in classical studies?
I’ll repeat myself from our thread in The Book Scene:
Most of those are relatively recent popular histories on the subject of ancient history. For translations of the seminal texts, I recommend Stanley Lomardo (e.g., The Iliad) and Stephen Mitchel (e.g., Gilgamesh: A New English Version).
