Dr. Hunt suggested purchasing a catastrophic coverage policy for medical insurance. That’s exactly what my husband and I had before the state started legislating that ALL policies must cover an assortment of eventualities. Then obamacare came in and demolished all those “substandard” policies that most of us loved. My question is, is it still possible to purchase a catastrophic coverage policy, and if so WHERE?
We already have the HSA from a few years back.
Thanks!
Thanks for posting this. I read the piece earlier today, it’s nice to hear Dr. Hunt talk. It’s pretty much “medical insurance 101”. Very basic stuff. I’d love to see more in depth discussion of how to FIX this mess. My family has managed to avoid any (direct) dealings with the government bureaucracy, but we are still suffering the abuse of the system they’ve created. There has to be a way to tear it down.
Again, though, thanks for posting this.
Spitting tacks. Obama has succeeded in enslaving us. I am OWNED by my medical insurance company. The company I’ve used for 20 years, could switch plans, make changes, whatever, whenever. NOW I cannot change my plan until their “open enrollment” period. Next November. Even then, changes won’t take effect until January 2015. Till then they own me, and I must pay $4,206 per quarter. Whether I actually HAVE the money or not.

I didn’t see any mention of health sharing plans here. The one I use is samaritanministries.org and for my family of 6 it only costs $405 per month plus I do and additional program for $399 a year that removes any cap from my medical expenses. I don’t pay the money to an insurance fund, instead the check I write goes directly to someone that needs it to pay off their medical bills.
There are other plans out there including one shared on the Tom Woods show but I’m just using the one that I thought was best for my family after looking at them all.
Just got a letter in response to my “inquiry” to Blue Shield. Apparently, I’m not ‘allowed’ to fire them, either. There is nothing I can do to change my policy prior to October, short of moving to another state. And even when I DO change it in October, it won’t go into effect till January. Which means the bastards are given the right (by the Federal government) to squeeze another $8400. out of me before I am ‘allowed’ to make any changes. And, no, I can’t just drop it and never pay; my husband has stage 4 kidney failure, and I’ve had cancer in the past, so we must have insurance. All these years I’ve paid through the nose for it, now, with the Federal government’s help, I’m paying through the rear as well.
Thanks, Mr. Resident!
Sorry to hear that, Toni. Be real careful before you make any changes to make sure your coverage will work the way you need it to. I’ll be pulling for your husband.
