About this group

The Free State Project is an effort to recruit 20,000 liberty-loving individuals to move to New Hampshire. Once relocated to the “Live Free or Die” State, members are to exert their fullest practical energies toward the reduction in the size of government in New Hampshire.

The goal is to create a free society, a Galt’s Gulch if you will, where no individual is forced to sacrifice his or her life for another at the point of a gun. Once complete, America and perhaps the whole world will have yet another example of the tremendous prosperity that always follows individual liberty.

Whether you’re a participant, a friend, or simply intrigued by the idea of creating a Free State, feel welcome to join and post your questions here.

Why New Hampshire, you ask?

1) No personal income tax
2) No sales tax
3) No capital gains tax
4) Some of the least restrictive gun laws in America
5) Libertarians hold over 30 offices (and growing fast!)
6) No seat belt or helmet laws for adults
7) Government schools are NOT mandated by the State Constitution
6) State Constitution protects the right to revolt/secede (not that FSP advocates this)
7) NH is small in terms of population and land mass–easy/affordable to run state-wide campaigns
8) NH is the fourth least dependent State on Federal money
9) A dynamic knowledge-based economy
10) Extremely low crime and poverty rates (surprise, surprise)

And of course the most important reason now is we’re here, we’re free’r, get used to it.

Make sure you check out Liberty.me’s Free State Project Guide!

The only major thing I have against NH is that it is bloody cold. I hate cold weather with a passion. So I would have to become rich enough to do the snow bird thing in some fashion.

The other thing that worries me is the actual number of listed software gigs in various job and contracting gig sides for NH is surprisingly low, extremely so. I…[Read more]

It’s true, the amount of software work in New Hampshire is depressingly low, and to tell the truth, Massachusetts isn’t very impressive these days either. And the tax structure is such that if you live in New Hampshire and work in Massachusetts, you pay income tax to Massachusetts; if you live in Massachusetts and work in New Hampshire, you pay…[Read more]

My family and I just tried Chile for 7 months – it was our top international pick based on our research. Other than safety for a SHTF situation, there’s not enough reason for us to choose it over the US.
While it’s a great country currently with low government regulation and a stable economy, the country is full of socialists and a consi…[Read more]

@jordancclive The entire region from Manchester south to Boston is very dense with tech so I think you’d be fine here. Most of the mover in the greater Nashua region that I know are involved in tech. Some work in NH – others commute to towns in MA but almost nobody goes as far as Boston (1 hour away but traffic can easily double that).

      As for…[Read more]

@jeffreycreem thanks for the super helpful response! I’m thinking about how I can make that forum. I’d love to figure out how fitting in there could work.

Big proof that the Free State Project works. Where else can you see this kind of activism operation be pulled off so seamlessly?

Some people might be aware of the two big events sponsored annually by the Free State Project  in NH (PorcFest and Liberty Forum). Those events bring in speakers from around the country and are pretty awesome ways for people to get to know the community in NH.

What is probably a little less well known and perhaps harder to appreciate unless you…[Read more]

At least one person ‘here’ is from Canada. Not exactly overseas.. There are certainly other FSP participants from overseas (South Africa, UK, Russia come to mind quickly..)

I almost did not post this here since I figured that it was pretty well promoted within libertarian circles – then I was out at a liberty social event the other night and was talking to a friend/FSP participant who had not heard that this had been released…..

While not formally associated with the Free State Project, each year since 2011, a large number of Liberty Activists work together to raise money and then deliver food baskets to needy families across southern NH. Last year we provided meals to 373 families.
