• One of the best tips I can give with regard to frugal shopping is keep your eyes open. So many of us go into a store with blinders on, focused only on getting what we came for. This too can be a good frugal tactic as you can avoid impulse buys, but if you can keep your eyes open for in store sales, closeouts, and the like you can get some amazing…[Read more]

  • On her blog, Wendy McElroy has been posting some nice frugality tips lately:

  • You know that you are doing something right when though you are in Texas, in the middle of July, you are using only fans and yet you wake up with a chill. We are playing with housefans, those sort of window fans that are designed to either bring in or exhaust air. Far better than mere box fans these seal up the opening so that the fans control the…[Read more]

  • I use Swagbucks search engine to get points that can be turned into gift cards, ebay dollars, amazon dollars, and much more. I posted about the slow cooker that my fiancee and I picked up on points alone and will soon post pics of the induction burner we picked up for points and a mere $10.. You may not get rich, but you can enrichen your life..…[Read more]

Just received and tried out my second “big” free purchase: an induction burner. We opted to “buy” it before we had all of the points necessary, in part because it was on sale. We picked up an $149.00 induction burner for $10!! I used swagbucks and shopped a good amazon sale. I am far from the best so I am looking forward to hints from all of…[Read more]

Beef prices are have been increasing and are going to keep on increasing. Two years ago small ranchers were lucky to get $1.00 a pound for 500-800 lb cattle. This price has been about the same for several decades. By some accounts the actual dollar amount for a calf had not changed since the 1970s. No longer is this the case! This year several…[Read more]

    • Please remember the NAP when you read what I’m going to say!!!

I am glad to see an increase in prices. Not so much at the store since the stores always get their profit but as a producer it is good. We have a handful of cattle and it sure was hard to watch fuel prices pretty much double while beef prices decreased (except for retail).

    • @peterl I have family who have cattle and I too am glad to see a long over due correction. That said, as a consumer I still want to maximize the use of my dollars.

    • Great tips, Brian!

    • I understand and agree!@tinybuilder

    • If you’re able to buy and store 40 lbs at a time, take a look at Zaycon Foods (zayconfresh.com). You just sign up for their email list, and they will let you know when they will be distributing in your area. I live in an apartment, so can’t store that much meat, but some prepper sites I have been on seem pretty happy with them.

    • @radgal81 Thanks for the tip!! I will definitely check it out.

    • @tinybuilder welcome!

Just to demonstrate that some of the point systems can work, here is a cooker that my fiancee and I purchased using only points from Swagbucks. This is a site that gives you points for doing your normal searches, and has other opportunities to earn points.

You won’t get rich, but you can pick up some things you may want without having to spend…[Read more]

    Welcome!

We work hard for our money, and the government takes a good portion of it. I have worked for years to find ways to decrease the amount that the state takes, while at the same time decrease the amount I have to spend to have the comfortable life I desire. I am hopeful that there are others on here who do likewise and that we can share…[Read more]
