I am no longer actively in the healthcare profession, but I’d still love to participate in and read discussion. I was in oncology related non-profit for over a decade here in Northwest Arkansas. I was the Executive Director of HOPE, Inc., which was a grass roots nonprofit effort by one of the medical oncologists and his staff. although the mission has since evolved toward more patient financial and emotional support and community education and screening, we also wrote some original local clinical trails. Most recently, I worked in the Clinical Research office at Highlands Oncology Group.

That is awesome! I worked the oncology floor at the hospital as a nurse’s aid while I was in LVN school. It was there where my eyes were really opened to the need for medical marijuana. I was eighteen at the time and I had just barely thought about the issues. When I saw the difference between a terminally ill patient using medicinal weed vs. a terminally ill patient who did not, I knew where I stood on the marijuana debate. As of right now I am in RN school soon to graduate. I have been an LVN since 2008. I work with pediatric ventilator patients primarily and plan to stick with that for a while.

Yes! I am a passionate supporter of medical marijuana (and pretty much a supporter of anyone who wants to use plants as medicine or even for fun 😉 It’s heart wrenching to watch people suffer, and makes me beyond angry to see patients struggle to pay for prescription drugs when so many of their symptoms could be alleviated with a $10 bag of weed. It’s great that you will be in healthcare- an industry that definitely needs more Libertarian influence!

Hell yeah it does. The healthcare industry is full of people who have a “know what’s good for you” mentality. Granted that is sort of the nature of the industry, but it has gone too far. One of the big problems in health care is how over regulated it is. A politician has no business between what happens with a patient and their Doctor.

I am not a healthcare provider (I hope that’s OK) – but my husband and I are involved in medical research having to do with our daughter’s chromosomal anomaly (Dup15Q), and I am very interested in healthcare and medical issues, including alternative medicine and medical marijuana (which we may end up using with our daughter.)

Yeah you don’t have to actually be a healthcare worker. The idea is for the discussions to be related to medicine in some way. It is pretty open really.

My wife and I both work with special needs kids. Neither of us have ever dealt with Dup15Q before. My wife does take care of a girl with Trisomy 18. We both have found that the parents are often very knowledgeable. I think you definitely have something to offer this group.

Really? Do you use electronic stimulation with that or is it purely just the needles?

I am in my first of four years of training for osteopathic manual practitioner (as opposed to osteopathic physician in US). In our school (Canadian Academy of Osteopathy), we favour the term “classical osteopathy”, as we follow after the principles of the original founder, Dr. Andrew Taylor Still.
