UK Libertarian Meet Up!

  • Alexander J. Malt

    Hello everyone!

I think it would be nice to not only talk on L.me but also organise some kind of meet. I know that we’re mostly scattered about the country but I’m thinking we should get together sometime within the next few months to get to know one another and generally schmooze. So initially I’m thinking that we meet somewhere for an extended social meet n’ greet – keep it simple. We can get to know each other, probably over a few drinks.

To this end, would people mind leaving their name and your location so we can discuss a good place to meet (feel free to leave ideas and suggestions also – even ideas for more ambitious events, but initially it’s probably best to keep it simple and start with a few drinks!). So, I’ll go first and leave this…

Shouldn’t be too difficult in my case.

I’d be interested, dependent on location.  Mainly just to confirm that other libertarians are real.  For all I know, this is all an elaborate internet hoax, and I am the only person in the world who thinks like this! 😉

OK – so the furthest south so far is Birmingham! Would somewhere like Leeds be a good location for a first meet? (We’ll leave it for a while longer ‘cuz I’m hoping a few more people might reply to this thread – also, spread the word to whatever other UK libertarians to get their arses here and get there names down!)

A similar do was organised a while ago over on theuklibertarian.com forum, and Leeds was settled on there, too.  Is there a northern slant to UK libertarianism, I wonder?

It could stir some extra interest if the invite was cross-posted over there, perhaps?  Here’s a link to that event / discussion:

Good stuff – keep encouraging people to post here! Perhaps midpoint is now nearer Birmingham!

    Martin Nicholls

Martin Nicholls, Worthing. I think I win at being the furthest south, maybe one day I will get to move up north like I want to 🙂

So, is it worth suggesting a location and date yet?  Something definite might flush a couple more lurkers out of the woodwork! 😉

    Hi all,

I’m Adam and I’ve just joined L.me recently. I’m from Leeds so obviously a meet-up there would work for me (!) but happy to travel to spend time with some like-minded people!

So what happened here? Was there ever a meet up?

Nope, no meet-up yet.  Unless it was done in secret without me :-/

Ok, might I suggest that Birmingham, Derby or Leicester (all on main rail & road links and in the Midlands) would seem to be the best hubs for a meeting of such a geographically diverse bunch?

That being the case, can anyone suggest a suitable hostelry or tavern in any of these locations?  Let’s set a location, and then maybe we can agree a date before this thread’s 1st anniversary!
